Brock Mutcheson serves as the Associate Dean of Assessment, Program Evaluation, and Strategic Analytics at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. In this role, he helps guide institutional strategy by integrating evidence, evaluation, and outcomes-driven design into decision-making. His work focuses on aligning mission with measurable progress, using data not only to understand systems but to improve them. He holds a Ph.D. in Education Statistics, an MEd.L. in Education Administration, and an MBA, bringing a multidisciplinary perspective to complex questions of performance, policy, and institutional improvement. His expertise spans quantitative analysis, impact measurement, and the strategic use of data to support decisions that are both pragmatic and purpose-driven. Outside of work, Brock enjoys life in Roanoke, Virginia, with his wife Liz, a third-grade teacher at West Salem Elementary, their two daughters, Sylvia (11) and Ryan (7), and their new puppy, Archie. He spends much of his time cooking, running, coaching youth sports, and playing board and card games. He’s an avid sports fan—especially of baseball, basketball, and hockey.

Why CHIP –

What drew me to CHIP is its measured clarity of purpose—supporting families through consistent, thoughtful connection during some of the most formative years of life. At a time when many systems focus on urgent response, CHIP makes a deliberate choice to start earlier—to build trust, strengthen foundations, and help families move toward lasting stability. That approach reflects more than compassion; it reflects discipline. What resonates most with me is how CHIP’s care model aligns its values with its methods—prioritizing resilience, readiness, and dignity. It’s not simply about delivering services; it’s about shaping futures. Being part of this work is a chance to support a philosophy of care that invests in people early, honors their potential, and in doing so, helps shape a stronger, more equitable community. I hope to contribute by bringing a lens that connects mission with measurable impact—helping support decisions that are compassionate, effective, and sustainable. My background in data and quantitative analysis, along with a broader strategic perspective, allows me to engage in meaningful conversations about how outcomes are evaluated, resources are aligned, and long-term value is created—for families, for partners, and for the region as a whole.
